Extension Support
How do I install the Endpoint Proctoring Extension?
Download the extension from the Chrome Web Store or click the 'Install Extension' button during your exam setup. The extension will guide you through the installation process.
Why does the extension need certain permissions?
The extension requires permissions to monitor your exam session, detect violations, and ensure exam integrity. Its monitors are active only on the armed exam page and on the check-in pages, not on other sites you visit. Section 13 of the Proctoring Privacy Policy at /privacy/proctoring lists each permission and what it is used for.
The extension isn't connecting to my exam
Ensure you're on the correct exam page, the extension is enabled, and you've granted all necessary permissions. Try refreshing the page or reinstalling the extension if issues persist.
Can I disable the extension after my exam?
Yes, you can disable or remove the extension after your exam is complete. Go to chrome://extensions and toggle off or remove the Endpoint Proctoring Extension.
During Your Exam
What activities are monitored during the exam?
The extension monitors tab switches, copy/paste attempts, screen recording, and other activities that could indicate cheating. Your institution determines the specific monitoring rules.
What happens if I accidentally switch tabs?
Minor violations like accidental tab switches are logged but typically don't end your exam. Multiple or intentional violations may flag your session for review.
Can I use other applications during the exam?
This depends on your exam settings. Most exams restrict access to other applications. Check with your instructor or exam administrator for specific rules.
What if I lose internet connection?
The extension will attempt to reconnect automatically. If connection is lost for an extended period, your proctor will be notified. Save your work frequently if your exam platform allows it.
Technical Issues
System requirements for the extension
Chrome browser version 100 or higher, stable internet connection, webcam and microphone (if required by your exam), and screen sharing permissions.
The extension is showing an error
Try these steps: 1) Refresh the page, 2) Disable and re-enable the extension, 3) Clear browser cache, 4) Reinstall the extension. Contact support if issues persist.
Recording isn't starting
Ensure you've granted camera and screen sharing permissions when prompted. Check your browser settings at chrome://settings/content to verify permissions are enabled.
How do I test my setup before the exam?
Use the test environment during check-in to verify your camera, microphone, and screen sharing are working properly. Complete all system checks before starting your exam.
Privacy & Security
What data is collected during proctoring?
We collect screen and camera recordings, still images from your camera, your check-in media (identity document, liveness frames and room scan), browser activity on the exam and check-in pages, and violation events. The Proctoring Privacy Policy at /privacy/proctoring lists every item and is the authoritative statement.
How long is my data retained?
Our system performs no automated deletion of proctoring data based on age. There is no timer that removes exam sessions, check-in media, recordings, violations or event logs after a set period. Your data is kept until your institution or we delete it, and a deletion request is carried out by hand. Some deletions are operational rather than time-based - for example, our copy of a recording is deleted once it has been copied to storage your institution controls. See section 7 of the Proctoring Privacy Policy at /privacy/proctoring, and ask your institution to delete your data.
Who can access my proctoring data?
Your institution and its authorized proctors and administrators. We also disclose data to service providers and platforms that the proctoring service depends on - your exam imagery is sent to OpenAI for automated analysis, and session results go to your exam platform and your learning management system. We do not sell personal information. Sections 4 and 8 of the Proctoring Privacy Policy at /privacy/proctoring name every recipient and exactly what each one receives.
Is my personal information secure?
Connections to our servers use HTTPS, so your data is encrypted while it travels. We do not apply application-level encryption to stored check-in media, recordings, or the fields holding your name and email address. Check-in media is held as binary data inside our database, is not reachable at any public web address, and is served only to a signed-in administrator. Section 10 of the Proctoring Privacy Policy at /privacy/proctoring states our security practices, including their limits.
